What is a Urogynecologist?
Urogynecology is a specialty dedicated to treating conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence.

Is urinary incontinence a normal part of getting older?
Urinary incontinence is not normal in adults at any age.

What are the different types of urinary incontinence?
1) Stress urinary incontinence 2) Urge incontinence 3) Mixed urinary incontinence 4) Overflow urinary incontinence

What can be done for stress urinary incontinence?
Kegel exercises, pessaries with knobs, minimally invasive surgery.

Is laparoscopic surgery or robotic surgery better than vaginal surgery for the treatment of prolapse?
Natural orifice surgery (transvaginal) is less invasive than laparoscopic or robotic surgery for the treatment of the majority of cases of prolapse.

What is the G-spot shot all about?
The G-spot is proposed to be a small area of the anterior vagina (approximatley 1-3 inches from the opening) that may contain an erogenous zone. Stimulation of this area may lead to sexual arousal and orgasm.

What is pelvic organ prolapse?
Pelvic organ prolapse is simply another way to say that you have hernias inside your vagina. The definition of a hernia is a rupture of an organ through a wall. When your bladder or rectum sags into the vaginal canal, it is due to a rupture of tissue allowing this to occur, just as in the case of a groin hernia.

What are the treatment options for complete uterine prolapse (procidentia)?
Pessary vs partial colpocleisis vs vaginal hysterectomy and pelvic reconstructive surgery.

Why is mesh used for repair of pelvic organ prolapse?
The recurrence rates are significantly less when mesh is incorporated in the prolapse repair.

What is mesh erosion?
Mesh erosion is an ulceration of the synthetic material through the vaginal wall or, less likely, into the adjacent organ (urethra, bladder, rectum).

What is Interstitial Cystitis?
Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a painful bladder syndrome (PBS) that is characterized by urinary frequency, urgency, and bladder pain/pressure or discomfort in the pelvic area. It is a nonbacterial cystitis that is often a chronic, but treatable, disorder.

What is nocturia and what causes it?
Nocturia refers to waking up out of sleep to urinate.

What is the duration of action of Botox in overactive bladder?
If Botox is effective, one can expect about nine months of benefit in most cases. Typically, patients have it injected once or twice a year.

What are the side effects of urologic use of Botox?
The main side effect is urine retention (inability to empty or completely empty the bladder). This can lead to the necessity to perform intermittent self-catheterization until the large residual volumes improve.

What can I do about frequent UTI's?
Vaginal hormone replacement can be effective to reduce UTI's after menopause.

Why do I leak during sex (coital incontinence)?
Leakage during sexual activity is subdivided into leakage occuring during penetration and leakage occuring during orgasm.

When they talked about the golden years, they were not talking about the color of your pads!

Contrary to common belief, men and women have an equal incidence of overactive bladder. All you have to do is visit a golf course to realize that all those men in the woods are not there just looking for missing golf balls!

Urinary incontinence is not life threatening but it is quality of life threatening.

No one dies from urinary incontinence but your quality of life dies in proportion to the severity of the condition.

Seek Treatment: You have nothing to lose but your pads!
